I developed the General Nonlocal Theory as a remedy of the drawbacks of Eringen's nonlocal theory. In the new theory, two independent nonlocal parameters are used to distinguish the longitudinal strain from the shear strain.

The general nonlocal theory can simultaneously fit the longitudinal and transverse acoustic curves of Au [100].
